Solar energy and energy storage systems smart usage

SOLAR ENERGY AND ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS SMART USAGE
Given the current energy prices, utilizing solar energy storage systems has become increasingly beneficial. Just a couple of years ago, during the summer when solar energy production peaks, energy prices were so high that selling the excess energy generated by solar panels could almost cover the costs of electricity bills during non-productive times. However, the situation in the market has shifted. Due to fluctuating market prices, it has become advantageous to store energy intelligently, purchase from the grid when prices are low, and sell it back when demand and prices are higher.
COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL (C&I) AND CONTAINER-BASED ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS (BESS)
Businesses should consider energy storage when there is a higher demand for energy, even during non-peak hours. BESS provides the opportunity to remain independent during power outages, especially for critical systems that cannot afford to shut down. Installing solar panels along with a storage system is most cost-effective, particularly during short-term peaks in energy consumption when the existing amperes purchased from the grid are insufficient. The BESS system compensates for the shortfall in energy from batteries. It is essential to conduct a thorough analysis before purchasing a system, considering current consumption and future needs. If the company expands and requires additional energy, investment from the grid operator may not be feasible (due to limited resources in the substation) or the investment cost may be partially or entirely covered by the BESS system. In 2020 and 2021, energy import prices in the European Union more than doubled. BESS partially offsets the increase in energy prices and provides some certainty to the company. Key components of BESS offered by Division Red include:
- Adding autonomous energy storage to an existing solar park
- Container or cabinet solutions for indoor and outdoor environments
- Backup power during power outages. Critical consumers – heating, cooling, IT, etc.
- Fire suppression system
- Sensors: smoke, temperature, fire alarm, emergency lighting
- Modular expansion
- Peak shaving – managing energy during peak hours to reduce electricity consumption when demand is typically higher. This usually occurs when electricity prices are highest or when it is necessary to reduce load to avoid grid overload.
- Market price management – optimizing battery charging, if needed, 0-export.
PAYBACK PERIOD WITH STORAGE SYSTEM
On average, 6-7 years, depending on the system installed for the company/private residence, consumption, and other factors – we make a predictive calculation of the required electricity production.
WHICH BUSINESSES BENEFIT MOST FROM SOLAR PANEL INSTALLATION?
Those with the highest electricity consumption, especially during daytime hours. There is also a separate solution for east-west orientation if energy consumption is higher in the morning and afternoon. Solar panels can be equipped with an energy storage system, allowing the energy produced during the day to be consumed at night, saving on electricity and grid fees. Additionally, surplus energy can be consumed immediately, avoiding grid fees.
HYBRID INVERTER FOR RESIDENCES
Manufacturers offer hybrid inverters with varying capacities that can be complemented with a battery bank. When choosing an inverter, consider which additional features are desired now or in the future: generator input, optimizer use (shadows, different surfaces on the roof), backup power in case of grid failure (Backup-UPS).
• Solar energy production utilizes direct energy, eliminating grid fees and tariffs.
• Excess energy is stored in batteries, which can be used during non-productive periods.
• It is possible to purchase energy from the grid during off-peak times and consume it during peak hours.
• Market price monitoring and corresponding charging.
SOLAR PARK WITHOUT SELLING TO THE GRID
This can only be resolved through the consumption of electricity produced – when solar energy is generated, it is consumed, and selling excess energy back to the grid is limited. Division Red OÜ’s goal is to simplify matters for the client as much as possible. We assist in grid connection, paperwork, EHR, and conduct electrical audits. We offer comprehensive solar energy solutions for all types of roofs and ground installations.
